The transformation of King’s Cross Station by John McAslan + Partners is one of the winners of the 2013 European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards, unveiled today by the European Commission and Europa Nostra.
My warmest congratulations go to this year’s winners. The past can teach us a lot about the present and the future, so we must ensure that our heritage can be appreciated by as many people as possible today and do our utmost to protect it for the benefit of future generations.
Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth.
We are delighted to be the recipient of this prestigious award. The redevelopment of King’s Cross Station has been an extraordinarily complex and collaborative process, resulting in a compelling piece of place-making for London. King’s Cross is now an internationally significant transport interchange, fit for the 21st century and beyond.
John McAslan, Chairman, John McAslan + Partners.
The award ceremony will take place on 16 June 2013 at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens, in the presence of Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, Plácido Domingo, world-renowned opera singer and Europa Nostra President, and Karolos Papoulias, President of Hellenic Republic.
