KAAN Architecten has won the Benelux Aluminium Award 2013 for Sustainable Renovation with the Dreamhouse.
An independent jury composed by figures from the world of architecture, technology and media based in the Netherlands and in Belgium, among whom chairman prof. Jan Brouwer (architect, NL) and vice-chairman Thomas Dierickx (architect, BE) assigned the non-residential buildings category award to KAAN Architecten’s Dreamhouse.
The jury evaluated the entries on the basis of these criteria: the significant use of aluminium, the energy efficiency and consumption, the contemporary design, the socio-economic impact and the value added to the original building.
Dreamhouse is the renovation project of a corner shop of the Rotterdam’s Lijnbaan originally designed by Van den Broek en Bakema during the post-war years.
