Polish architecture and design studio A+D has completed a Salon for the fashion designer Joanna Klimas. Situated in Warsaw, Joanna Klimas Salon is a unique place which combines inspiring sewing workshop, shop, café, reading room and space for fashion shows (with the possibility of arranging the catwalk). Thanks to the skillful combination of functions, this place has its own air that reflects the brand and creates perfect environment for hanging out among the designer’s collections.
During the adaptation of the interior, A+D paid attention to the unique atmosphere of the Warsaw Muranów of the 50′s. A+D have tried to interfere as little as possible, respecting the historic preserved interior details. A+D did not recreate historical elements, A+D deliberately allowed the own history to roam making use of existing walls and wooden floors.
The most important design decision was to create a mezzanine floor (so-called “functional-spatial structure”). It fits snugly along the walls. With it A+D gained additional space for new open spaces. This structure is a bridge which is set for café tables and reading. Mezzanine in the form of openwork steel structure is highlighted with more than 120 fluorescent lights with the possibility of regulation in six exhibition areas, so A+D have a full opportunity to adapt the area under the mezzanine.
This area is the main exhibition space living room. Here daylight penetrates filtered through a glass floor mezzanine. Staircase with elegant design details refers to drawing and sewing scissors and they are able to carry incredible load.
